We offer a full ear wax removal service in Sussex using Micro-suction and irrigation, either at our clinic in Polegate or as a home service.
What is Ear Wax?
Earwax (or cerumen) is the material that is produced by specialised sebaceous glands in the cartilaginous part of the ear canal and the skin that migrates from the ear canal. It is important process for the natural cleaning, protection and lubrication of the lining of the ear canal. In addition, it also has antibacterial properties and keeps the PH levels of the ear canal at a correct level.
Your ear canal should have some wax present and generally clears itself through natural migration of the skin in the canal. When excessive wax is formed and clogs up the canal to prevent you from hearing well, it needs to be removed properly.
Often, people try and remove it themselves using cotton buds or things bought off the internet. However, you should NEVER try to remove wax this way as it can cause permanent damage to the ear drum, and often pushes the wax deeper in the ear causing impacted wax.

We use multiple techniques to remove wax, as only one way often is not always the most appropriate.
This is where we use a suction device to remove the wax, using illuminated head worn magnification to see clearly into your ear canal at all times.
Micro-Suction
This is where we use water at body temperature, which is directed into the ear canal on a carefully measured pressure setting, using illuminated head worn magnification to always see clearly into your ear canal.
Irrigation
This is using blunt nose forceps / thin tool to manual remove wax using illuminated head worn magnification to always see clearly into your ear canal at all times.

Often, I will use a combination of all three to provide a successful and comfortable wax removal procedure. We only charge if we remove the wax if further appointments are needed then we will not charge for these additional appointments. Your ear health and hearing is the most important thing to us.
