Meet Liam
Liam Thompson has been an Audiologist since 1990, where he trained at Eastbourne Audiology department. He underwent training at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital in London, where he completed his professional Audiology qualifications. Following this, he went on to work at Leeds General Infirmary as a Research Audiologist for the Medical Research Council in conjunction with the Institute of hearing research. His role was to work with a number of other research Audiologists help modernise hearing aid services across the country by displaying the proven benefits of digital hearing aids over analogue aids and improved methods of fitting them.
He then went on to work with one of the worlds leading manufacturers of hearing aids to help train audiologists in NHS hospitals to fit new digital hearing aids to their patients. An opportunity eventually arose to work with a deaf charity, who were able to provide NHS hearing aid services outside of hospitals where he became the Chief Audiologist helping run clinics across multiple sites and manage a team of Audiologists.

Our Approach
“Hearing aids can, in the beginning be a difficult decision, initially because of the stigma that used to be attached to them. When I first assess a patient for hearing problems, I always listen to the patient in front of me. No two patients are identical, therefore their solution and outcome will be different. With 30 years experience in Audiology, I will always give the best clinical advice to my patients; not one based on selling the most expensive hearing aids to hit a target, unlike large high street chains. I am an Independent practitioner thus not tied into any hearing aid manufacturers, as such, my advice is based on my extensive knowledge of hearing aid technology as well as what the patient needs/wants. A hearing aid can mean different things for different people. Some people want an ‘invisible’ discreet solution, while others need a powerful aid to help a greater loss. Others may need a rechargeable aid as changing batteries can be too fiddly. Whatever you need, we try to deliver the most appropriate solution to achieve the best outcome possible.
I am always surprised that we do not all get our hearing checked more often. We will see the dentist and optician regularly but often, neglect our hearing. At Polegate Hearing Care, we offer an extensive Audiological assessment and will always explain the results thoroughly. Once we have found out the problem, we can decide the best course of action, which could even be a matter of waiting and watching if your hearing is at near normal levels. Or it could be a medical condition, which could be treated by either your doctor or an ENT specialist or a hearing aid would be the answer.
We put the patient, not profit first. As such, everything we do is patient centred and ethical.“
